INTENTIONAL FOCUS ON WELLBEING
Social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs-the broad domain of human functioning that represents the quality of a student’s thinking, feeling, and behaving outside of academic or cognitive skills

of those, only 20% were receiving the specialty mental health services they needed and many had no treatments

* 48% of LGBTQ adolescents have considered suicide
* 21% have made an attempt in the last 12 months
* 46% report wanting mental health services but have not been able to receive the services

- Communities working together to focus on prevention efforts
- Promote resilience
- Resilience is the capacity to adapt well to significant adversity and to overcome serious stress
- Strong relationship with a caring adult is one of the most important factors.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE…
- Intentional focus by NASP to advocate for School Psychologists as behavioral and mental health providers
- Collaboration between educational and mental health
professionals to create schoolwide programs such as SEL and PBIS - Lawmakers increasingly proposing legislation to support and expand mental health in the schools
