What are the three steps to preparing donated blood?
1- out through centrifuge to divide into RBC, plasma, platelet, and proteins (hospital specific)
2- blood undergoes filtration to remove WBC
3- stored in optimal conditions to optimize shelf life
How long can RBCs be stored for? At what temp?
42 days at 1-6C
How long can plasma be kept for? At what temperature?
1 year -18C or colder
How long can platelets be kept for? At what temperature?
5 day stardom temp
