Q

What are the two kinds of hormones and what defines them?

A

Steroid hepor ones- made from cholesterol. Lipid soluble (can pass through bilayers)

No steroid hormones- 2 kinds

-made from amino acids

Glycoproteins hormones and peptide hormones

Q

What are the 3 ways glands are stimulated to release hormones?

A

Hormonal control- Other hormones (tropic hormones) control release (ie pituitary releasing TSH to make thyroid release T3)

Change in blood levels or certain substances (like glucose or calcium)

Neural control- controlled by sympathetic nervous system
