Signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock
Skin
Itching hives flushing swelling of the face warm tingly feeling in the face and mouth chest feet and hands
Respiratory signs and symptoms of allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock
Tightness in throat or chest cough rapid breathing laboredHoarseness muffled voice or loss of voice entirely strider wheezing
Cardiac symptoms of allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock
Increased heart rate decrease blood pressure
Generalize findings for an allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock
Itchy watery eyes headache runny nose patient expressed a sense of impending doom
Signs and symptoms of shock
Altered mental status/dry skin or pale cool clammy skin diaphoretic nausea or vomiting change and vital signs increased pulse increased respiration decreased blood pressure
Respiratory complaints
Allergic-Sneezing cough mild dyspnea
Anaphylactic- moderate to severe dyspnea tightness in chest
Respiratory sounds
Allergic-wheezing
Anaphylactic-wheezing muffles voice stridor
Skin texture
Allergic- local hives
Anaphylaxis- generalized hives
Skin color
Allergic- pallor little or no flushing of skin
Anaphylactic-generalized pallor or flushes skin
Swelling
Allergic- local swelling
Anaphylactic- swelling of face lips eyes tongue mouth injection site
Vital signs
Allergic- normal or nearly normal vital signs
Anaphylactic- tachycardia hypotension tachypnea decreased oxygen saturation
Mental status
Allergic- mild moderate or severe anxiety
Anaphylactic- feeling of impending doom
Indications for epinephrine auto injector
- Patient exhibited signs of severe allergic reaction including respiratory distress or shock
- Medication as prescribed for this patient by physician or is carried on the Ambulance
- Medical direction authorizes use for this patient
Dosage
Adult- one auto injector (0.3mg)
Infant and child- (0.15mg)
