7
Q

inflammatory phase

A
  • 1st phase of healing process for acute injuries
  • up to 4 days to complete
    1. vasoconstruction immediately occurs, then vasodialation
    2. pain, redness, swelling, etc occur due to exudate
    3. chemical mediators reduce exudate
    4. ends w/ phagocytes debriding the area

8
Q

vasoconstruction

A
  • blood vessels become narrowed (histamine)

- increases blood flow to injured area

A
  • formed by plasma fluid and cells

- located in space outside blood vessels

12
Q

fibroblastic repair phase

A
  • up to 6 wks
    1. decrease in symptoms from 1st phase
    2. capillaries form and bring O2; ROM increase
    3. Collagen reforms and gains strength from fibroblast construction

13
Q

maturation-remodeling phase

A
  • starts 3wks later and can take years to complete
    1. organization of collagen scar tissue
    2. Scar strengthens and decreases in size

16
Q

sprain

A

injury to a ligament; 1-3 degree

17
Q

strain

A

injury to muscle, tendon, or most commonly the musculotendinous junction where muscle and tendon meet; 1-3 degree

18
Q

tendinopathy

A

injuries to the tendon

19
Q

muscle spasms

A

muscle cramps; involuntary contractions of the muscles

20
Q

contusions

A

bruise; caused by a compression force

21
Q

fractures

A

break in bone caused by compression, tension, or shear forces

22
Q

transverse fracture

A

complete fracture perpendicular to long axis of bone

23
Q

greenstick fracture

A

incomplete fractures; side opposite the force is broken

24
Q

comminuted fracture

A

complete fracture w/ numerous tiny peices

25
Q

compression/ impacted fracture

A

stress applied from both ends of bone

26
Q

spiral fracture

A

result of torsion and compression forces

27
Q

avulsion fracture

A

piece of bone pulled off main bone by ligament or tendon

28
Q

common causes of illness

A

+bad nutrition, no exercise
+stress, heredity, toxins
+microorganism infection:
bacterial, viral, fungal
