what is a client system
the system in which the client exists (sociopolitical, SES, exosystems, etc.)
what are the 3 goals of a culturally responsive counselor
1- build self-awareness
2- seek understanding of client’s worldview
3- using techniques, skills, modalities, and research that are sensivity to the diversity of the client
define cultural competence
lifelong process to assist clients and their lived in systems, that is aspirational by building our self-awareness, knowledge, skills, to asist clients and provide advocacy at every level to assist them.
what are the 5 things to be self aware of when it comes to cultural competence
1- know ones own culture
2- aware of one’s biases
3- comfortable and aware of differences
4- aware of circumstances that would make for referral to differnt therapists or identity groups.
