Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist – “spirit of the times”, refers to the current state of culture: the expression of the present.
- The mode of an era is determined by a complex mixture of historical, social and psychological and aesthetic factor. Both past and present knowledge is needed as a forecaster begins to examine events to understand the evolution of fashion.
White spaces
is trying to identify opportunities, where there is a void not being taken advantage of.
Key to successful forecasting:

- Predict the future
Haute couture
expensive, fashionable clothes produced by leading fashion houses.
Vintage dressing
Vintage clothing is a generic term for garments originating from a previous era.
Urban look
Urban or street style tends to be a mix of casual and hip, and it picks up on what is happening in the world at any given time. It is about sub-culture rather than major trends and also has its roots in sports and music movements such as skateboarding, hip hop and rap.
Style tribes
A style tribe or fashion tribe is a group of people that dress in a distinctive style to show their membership in this group. Examples include punks, goths, hip-hop devotees, and ravers.
Space Age Style
In the ’60s, Space Age style revolved around the idea of exploration—of pushing boundaries further than ever before, whether that meant with materials or silhouettes.
Punk look
Typical crust punk fashion includes black or camouflage trousers or shorts (heavy work pants are popular for their durability), torn band T-shirts or hoodies, skin tight black jeans, vests and jackets (commonly black denim), bullet belts, jewellery made from hemp or found objects, and sometimes bum flaps.
Preppy style
Preppy or prep is a youth subculture in the United States associated with old private Northeastern college preparatory schools. The terms are used to denote a person seen as characteristic of a student or alumnus of these schools.
Mod Style
very modern; up-to-date; being in the vanguard in style, dress, etc. Sometimes Mod . of or relating to a style of dress of the 1960s, typified by miniskirts, bell-bottom trousers, boots, and bright colors and patterns. noun.
Minimalistic
Minimalistic is used to describe something that is stripped down to its most essential elements or uses only what is needed.
Hippie Style
Hippie clothing refers to clothing worn or made by “hippies,” or clothing made to evoke or imitate these styles. Hippies are best described as people belonging to a international subculture movement in 1960s and 1970s that, in addition to fashion, also had its own characteristic music, philosophy and way of life.
Hippie look
Hippies often chose brightly colored clothing and wore unusual styles, such as bell-bottom pants, vests, tie-dyed garments, dashikis, peasant blouses, and long, full skirts; non-Western inspired clothing with Native American, Asian, African and Latin American motifs were also popular.
Grunge style
The definition of grunge is an alternative rock musical style started in the early 1990s featuring heavy electric guitar and dragging lyrics. … The definition of grunge is a style of fashion that includes baggy, torn clothes. An example of grunge is a teenager wearing torn jeans and a baggy shirt and jacket.
