Where does hair start growing

– Prevents bacteria growth

Most common sweat gland and what it does
Merocrine - eccrine
- all over the place – most sweat glands – go directly to the surface
– Used to cool you off
Body odor sweat gland
Aprocine
- Active at puberty
– Sweat glands in armpits and genital area

– come out of corneum stratum
– Nail root is under skin
– nail bed is under nail

– Loss of hypodermis – makes skin sag
– Loss of fat – old people get colder – lack of hypodermis layer
– Elastic fibers wear out – wrinkles
– Dermis becomes thinner as you age
burns (1st degree)
A burn to the epidermis
– Usually sunburn
– Sometimes when you touch a hot stove quickly
burns (2nd degree)

– Often gives blisters – don’t pop – infection can get in
– Swollen
– More painful
– Could be bad sunburn
burns (3rd degree)
A burn to the hypodermis
– Might have to have skin changes – no nerves
– Skin is missing
– Black or white
psoriasis
– Malfunction – could be immune system
– Skin could get flaky – elbows, knees, back, feet, hands – itchy
Dandruff
– Too much of corneum starts flaking off scalp could be too oily or too dry
– Caused by yeast like fungus
