Differentiate between symptoms of inattention and symptoms of hyperactivity.
- Inattention - tend to predict such outcomes as academic problems, certain driving difficulties, and peer neglect
- Hyperactivity - tends to predict aggression, peer rejection, and speeding citations.
What are the two fundamental ways to stop an impulse?
- The first way is that a child exerts efforts or exerts cognitive control
- A second way is due to a stronger impulse. (e.g. Fear or anxiety)
Developmentally, when are problems with impulsivity and inattention first apparent?
• impulsivity- ages 3-4 years
Inattention - 5-7 years
When is the performance of an ADHD child at its worse?
1) Later in the day than earlier
2) in more complex tasks, where organizational strategies are required
