Food supply
A growing population needs an increasing food supply. The Agricultural Revolution brought about population growth because it made more food available.
War
War obviously increases the death rate in an area. It also decreases the birth rate because young people are away in times of war.
When soilders return from war, many children be born
Technological development
Technology has led to an increase in food supply. Tractors and machinery have made farming more productive. Medical equipment and new drugs mean that people live longer. This increases the population. Countries in poverty will have bigger families to help with workload and look after the parents when they grow older. This causes the population to grown.
Health
A good healthcare system lowers the death rate. Vaccines and antibiotics are widely available in devolped countries, and people now survive illnesses and diseases that previously caused widespread deaths.
The avaibility to clean drinking water reduces the spread of disease, as does proper sanitation. Many of the fatal diseases that are widespread in the devolping world rarely occur in richer countries like Ireland.
