What is Internet Explorer?
Internet Explorer is a browser used to surf the Internet. Other browsers would include Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Netscape.
What is a Domain name?
A Domain Name is the name for the website, and is made up of (www.)-World Wide Web, (BBC) the name, and (co.uk) - a company in the UK
What is a file name?
A file name is the part of a URL that identifies the type of website. E.g.:
blahblahblah.org—Organisation
Chapter17.sch—Belongs to school
How do businesses use the Internet?
- Research
- Communication
- Obtaining Supplies.
How/what do businesses research using the internet?
They can look up information about other businesses or organisations, although they have to pay doing so. They can look into local areas, and stay up to date about competitors’ services and stock. Moreover, they can look up what to do under certain circumstances, such as what stock appeals to different people.
What are the 4 ways a business can communicate online?
- Social networking
- Chat rooms
- Blogs
What are the advantages and disadvantages of finding a range of suppliers online?
The business is pretty much guaranteed to find what they are looking for, and makes it very easy to compare information. Also, a 3-D model of the product can be found online, giving clearer ideas to the items suitability. Furthermore, good quality images can be uploaded and viewed. This whole thing speeds the process since the business does not have to wait for a catalogue to be sent. However, contacting would not be instant, and equipment is needed.
What is e-commerce?
Electronic commerce—online shopping. Carried out on an electronic system, usually on the internet, with no physical objects handled.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using e-commerce?
E-commerce is very time and money efficient. However, in the short run it takes a lot of preparation.
What is online booking?
E-commerce isn’t just for shopping, however, booking things such as tickets or holidays are also possibilities. The internet allows the shopper to view details about the booking along with availability and prices before paying.
What are online auctions?
Auctioning via the internet, where several different buyers can pledge money to try and get an object. The highest buyer by the deadline gets the object.
What is a blog?
A dairy-style website where individuals or businesses can add comments about a particular topic.
What is spam?
Spam is another word for unwanted emails, advertising products. Sometimes a virus.
