What is recruitment?
The process of obtaining new employees for a business. This includes identifying the most suitable applicant.
What process does a business go through when recruiting?
1) Human resource manager creates a person spec and job description (this will be advertised internally or externally)
2) Applicants are then short listed for interviews
What is a job
description?
A detailed statement of the tasks and responsibilities of a job.
What information is
included in a job
description?
The job description usually includes details about the tasks involved in the job. For example, cabin crew staffs are required to serve meals and refreshments to passengers.
What is a person
specification?
A statement listing the
characteristics, qualifications and experience required of a person to do a job
satisfactorily.
What information is included in a person specification?
Information such as experience, qualifications and experience are included. For example, a
music company may require that the candidate has an interest in music.
What is advertising?
A way of promoting vacancies within a company through different mediums.
What is internal
advertising?
Internal advertisements are placed inside the business for example on internal notice boards.
What is external
advertising?
External advertising uses advertisements that are seen by people outside the business. Ways of advertising outside of the business include newspapers and the internet.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of
external advertising?
Good; -Allows new people into the business -could motivate staff to work harder Bad; -could waste time with people who are unsuitable for the job -may upset internal workers
What are the advantages and disadvantages of
internal advertising?
Good;
-Motivates workers to work hard for promotion/boosts morale
-candidates already are familiar in the company
Bad;
-may cause conflict between workers
-could cause them to miss the opportunity to advance with outside talent

including their recruitment and training.
