What is concupiscence?
Tendency to sin due to the effects of Original Sin
What does it mean to be Pure in Heart?
To be pure of heart is to reserve your whole heart for God and his ways and to live in a way that is pleasing to him
What does it mean to be meek?
- The meek are people who bear offenses patiently
- They humbly accept God’s will
- They are temperate and restrain their anger
- They do not harbor ill will toward those who offend them
What does it mean to be Poor in Spirit?
- We cannot serve two masters
- Spiritual poverty means that we place god above all things, even our material possessions
- We must trust in God completely, listen to his words in our lives, and follow his call
- If we fill our hearts with worldly treasures, then we cannot fill our heart with God
What is the Old Law?
- Old Law commands with prohibitions
* One could follow the Ten Commandments out of duty, but in his heart not embrace the spirit of the Law
What is the Good News?
- The Good News is the Kingdom of God
- God is the King
- The Kingdom is in Heaven
What are the Beatitudes?
- Blessing or special happiness of a spiritual nature
- Exhortation of the fulfillment of the Old Law with the New Law
- Part of the Sermon on the Mount
- There are two versions in the Bible
What does each Beatitude end with?
a promise or incentive
What is a mourner?
- Mourners are those who have sorrow for sin
* We should mourn sin, for in sin we offend God and hurt ourselves
What does it mean to be merciful?
- The merciful exercise the Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy out of love for God
- Mercy is the gift of loving someone who may be difficult to love and often includes forgiveness
- It is the ability to love the ungrateful or unjust
What does a peacemaker want?
- A peacemaker wants unity between both parties
- Peacemakers go out of their way to remove obstacles that keep men apart
- They work hard at bringing sinners back to God
What is a sacrament?
an encounter with Christ
What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness?
- People who want what God wants
- Our Father – “Thy will be done”
- God will help us to do his will
- If we cooperate with his grace, his will shall be done
What are the 7 sacraments?
- Baptism
- Penance
- Confirmation
- Holy Orders
- Matrimony
- Anointing of the Sick
- Eucharist
What does it mean to be Called Sons of God?
We will be part of God’s family in the Communion of Saints for we have shared God’s love with others in the world
What does it mean to Inherit the Earth?
We will live in the reign of God here one earth and will not be controlled by power, self-importance or money
Why did Jesus give us the Beatitudes?
The Beatitudes show us how to love and live the law of God
How do we know Jesus is God the Son?
- He taught and preached about God and his Kingdom
- He challenged people to see things as God wants us to
- He worked miracles and was our perfect example
- He spoke in parables that taught about the Kingdom of God
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they shall be comforted
Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God
