Sources of Revelation
Sacred Scripture – the Word of God written down by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
Sacred Tradition – the entirety of the Word of God Magisterium – the teaching Church that safeguards revelation
Requirements for Mortal Sin
Must be of a serious matter
Must know it is wrong
Must freely choose to do it
Formation of Conscience
Conscience must be properly formed:
- Ten Commandments
- Beatitudes
- Golden Rule
- Scripture
- Example

Great Commandment
You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, your whole mind and your whole soul.
You shall love your neighbor as yourself..
Ten Commandments
I am the Lord you God; you shall not have other gods before me.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.
Honor your father and mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

- Angels – rational pure spirits
- Humans – rational and with free will
- Animals – driven by instinct or training

- Inanimate objects
God’s Master Plan
In God’s image
- Free will
- Rational
- Free from sin
- Preternatural gifts: infused knowledge, not die, never sick or suffer, know good from evil, act with will, live in harmony
- Supernatural gift: grace
