what is the biopsychosocial model?
argues that physical illness are not only caused by biological factors but also psychosocial factors
what is health psychology?
concerned with how psychosocial factors relate to the promotion and maintenance of health and with the causation, prevention and treatment of illness
what are health practices associated with?

what is stress?
any circumstance that threaten or are perceived to threaten one’s well being and that thereby tax one’s coping abilities
what are the three different types of stressors?
microstressors
catastrophic events
major negative events
what is primary appraisal?
demands of the situation
what is secondary appraisal?
resources available to cope
what can false appraisals can lead to?
lead to inappropriate stress response
what is an acute stressor?
threatening evens that have a relatively short deration and clear endpoint
what is a chronic stressor?
threatening events that have a relatively long deration and no clear endpoint
what is frustration?
occurs in any situation in which the pursuit of some goal is blocked
what is conflict?
occurs when 2 or more incompatible motivations or behavioural impulses compete for expression
what is change?
any noticeable alterations in one’s living circumstances that require readjustment
measured using the social readjustment rating scale
what is pressure?
expectation or demands that one behaves in a certain way
what is pressure to preform?
you are expected to execute tasks successfully and efficiently
