Sedentary
Doing or requiring much sitting; minimal activity,
Physically Inactive
Not meeting the recommendations for levels of physical activity.
Physical Literacy
The development of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sport skills that allow a child to move confidently and with control in a wide range of physical activity, rhythmic, and sport situations.
Overweight
A term to describe an excessive amount of weight for a given height, using height-to-weight ratios.
Obesity
An excessive accumulation of body fat.
Wolff’s Law
A principle stating that bone is capable of increasing its strength in response to stress by laying down more bone.
Overuse Injuries
An injury caused by activity that places too much stress on one area of the body over an extended period.
Gestational Diabetes
An inability to maintain normal glucose, or any degree of glucose intolerance, during pregnancy, despite being treated with either diet or insulin.
Preeclampsia
A complication in pregnancy shown with high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system.
Insomnia
The inability to sleep.
Anemia
A reduction in the number of red blood cells and/or quantity of hemoglobin per volume of blood below normal values.
Hyperthyroidism
A condition shown by hyperactivity of the thyroid gland.
Hyperthermia
Abnormally high body temperature.
