CHAPTER 13 (SKINNER) Flashcards
Emphasizes observable behavior over speculation
Radical Behaviorism
Neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to evoke a conditioned response.
Classical Conditioning
Involves the organism acting on the environment to produce a specific effect.
Operant conditioning
Used for complex behaviors where the desired behavior is too complex to be emitted immediately.
Shaping
What are the Three Conditions in Operant Conditioning?
Antecedent (A):
Behavior (B):
Consequence (C):
Adding a positive consequence to increase behavior.
Positive Reinforcement:
Removing or avoiding a negative consequence to increase behavior.
Negative Reinforcement:
Suppresses behavior but does not always eliminate it completely and may have unintended side effects.
Punishment
Occurs when a learned response diminishes due to the lack of reinforcement.
Extinction
Environmental stimuli associated with primary reinforcers become reinforcing themselves.
Conditioned Reinforcers:
Reinforcers like attention, approval, or money that can be used in various situations.
Generalized Reinforcers:
What are the Two Schedules of Reinforcement?
1.Continuous reinforcement:
2. Intermittent reinforcement:
The organism is reinforced for every response.
Continuous Reinforcement:
Reinforcement for some responses, more resistant to extinction.
Intermittent reinforcement
The organism is reinforced after a fixed number of responses.
Fixed-Ratio (FR) Schedule
