The transmission of information and meaning from one party to another through the use of shared symbols.
Communication
A process in which information flows in only one direction – from the sender to the receiver, with no feedback loop.
One-way communication
A process in which information flows in two directions – receiver provides feedback, and sender is receptive to the feedback.
Two-way communication
Mediums through which you can send a message to its intended audience
EX: Phone call, Text messages, Emails, Video, Radio, and social media ETC
Channel
Anything that distorts a message by interfering with the communication process. Can take many forms, For example, a radio playing in the background, another person trying to enter your conversation, and any other distractions that prevent the receiver from paying attention.
Noise
Distorting/withholding of information due to a previous negative experience with the receiver
Filtering
Focusing only on information that suits your needs as the receiver
Selective Perception
Too much information is given at one time
Information Overload
Upset individuals have problems relaying information (sender) and listening to a message (receiver)
Emotional Disconnects
Gossip channel
- The social network of informal communications
- Provides people with information
- Helps them solve problems
- Teaches them how to do their work successfully
Grapevine
