Chapter 11 Forces Flashcards
Inertia
Tendency for an object to remain at rest or moving
Newton’s First Law of Motion
an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion maintains it velocity unless it experiences an unbalanced force
Newton’s Second Law of Motion
The unbalanced force acting on an object equals the object’s mass times its acceleration
Free Fall
When something is acted on only gravity/ said to weightless
Ex. Skydiver
Terminal Velocity
Constant velocity of a falling object when air resistance force is equal in magnitude and oppose direction to the force of gravity
Projectile Motion
Curved path an object follows when projected near Earths surface by the influence of gravity
Law of Universal Gravitation
Particles attract other particles using the force directly
Weight
.force exerted of body by gravity
Apparent weightlessness
Property of objects that corresponds with how heavy they are
Newton’s Third Law of Motion
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
Action Force
When your weight pushes down on something
Reaction Force
When something pushes back with equal force
