What is a Poison?
Anything that causes illness of death if it enters the body.
What can be a Poison?
Liquid, solid or gas that enters the body in one of four ways.
What is Ingestion?
Poisons enter the body through the mouth and digestive system.
What is Inhalation?
Poisons enter the body via fumes through the lungs.
What is Absorption?
Poisons enter the body through the skin.
What is Injection?
Poisons enter the body through injection from needles or stingers of insects.
What patients may experience in a Poisoning case?
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, seizures, difficulty breathing or altered mental status.
What does the Medical Staff should do if there is a suspicion of Poisoning?
Call the Poison Control Center or the local emergency department and ask for assistance.
What is the treatment for Poisoning?
Vary according to the type of poisoning, don’t give the patient anything to eat or drink.
