Chapter 1 Flashcards
The Scientific Rationale for Integrated Training
Muscular Imbalance
the alteration of a muscle’s length that surrounds a joint
What causes a muscular imbalance?
Emotional duress, repetitive movements, bad training technique, lack of neuromuscular efficiency, poor core strength, and cumulative trauma / stress caused by injuries or postural problems.
What is the difference between being obese and overweight?
Overweight: BMI b/t 25 and 29.9, and between 25 and 30 lbs above the recommended height to weight ratio. Obese: BMI 30+ and 30 lbs overweight.
Proprioception
cumulative input into the CNS coming from the various mechanoreceptors in the body that sense limb movement and body position.
Proprioceptively enriched environments
unstable environments controlled to challenge one’s internal balance and stabilization.
OPT Training Model
a systematic training approach that builds on itself and the general phases of STABILIZATION, STRENGTH, and POWER.
What are the statistics for overweight and obese people in the US?
66% of the US pop over 20 y/o is currently overweight; 34% of the 66% are obese.
