Q

Adaptive plasticity after brain injury

A

Adaptive plasticity allows the brain to change and develop as result of new experiences. Adaptive plasticity allow the brain to be modified through experiences and learning and so also allows the brain to recover and Cope after a serious injury thanks to stem cells being continually created throughout life-
Cameron Mott example of this, she recovered especially well due to having developmental plasticity meaning her brain used all these excess neurons meaning more could be assigned to aid in her recovery

A

Individual that has had their corpus callosum cut and their left and right hemispheres no longer communicate with each other
If something is seen with the left eye you won’t be able to say it as your right hemisphere has processed it and language is predominately in the left hemisphere

Q

What is Spacial neglect

A

Spacial neglect is usually due to the right posterior parietal lobe being damaged causing a the affected person to ignore stimuli on one side of the body (usually left)
Relates to visual stimuli so they are blind but this isn’t ordinary blindness as yes function normally and most sufferers are unaware they have a deficit (anosognosia) and others may know but are not concerned (anosodiaphoria)
A person with Spacial neglect won’t realize there is more food on the left side of the plate to eat and so complains they weren’t given much, they won’t turn the plate as they are unaware that the other side of the plate is there .
