Pregroup phase
The leader considers the purpose, goals, criteria, size, and framework of the group, and obtains informed consent.
Forming phase
Goals and expectations are identified
Boundaries are established
Trust and rapport are (hopefully) developed
Storming phase
Resistance among members
Leaders allow expression of both positive and negative feelings
Norming phase
Resistance is overcome
Open and spontaneous communication occurs
Performing phase
The work is more focused
Creative problem solving
Solutions are created
Energy toward completion of goals
Mourning phase
Preparation to dissolve the group
Feelings are discussed

When does the termination planning begin in group therapy?
During the first stage (much like discharge planning)
Reminiscence therapy
Characterized by a progressive return of memories of past experiences; used to search for meaning in life and to resolve intrapsychic conflict
