Ch27: Soft Tissue Injuries Flashcards
closed soft tissue injury
damage under the skin/mucous membrane but doesn’t break the skin/mucous membrane
open soft tissue injury
damage under the skin/mucous membrane that breaks the skin/mucous membrane
burn
soft tissue damage that occurs because of heat, friction, chemicals or electricity
4 stages of wound healing
- Hemostasis
- Inflammation - migration of lots of cells to begin healing and WBC to kill pathogens
- Proliferation - cells quickly multiply + develop along edges of wound and ANGIOGENESIS
- Remodelling - collagen
crush syndrome
when tissue or an extremity has been crushed for prolonged periods of time that circulation has been cut off and muscle cells have died.
compartment syndrome
inflammation of a closed soft-tissue compartment that puts increased pressure on the vessels. tissues don’t get nutrient & oxygen, and waste products remain in the tissue
abrasion
after scraping skin on a hard surface
laceration
jagged cut in the skin
avulsion
separation of tissue
