what happens if chlamydia is left untreated
infection in cervix can spread to rectum; sometimes it can cause PID
what ages is bacterial vaginosis most prominent in?
15 - 44
bacterial vaginosis
overgrowth of other bacteria in the vagina
symptoms:
discharge with fishy or foul odor
itchy, burning or pain
gonorrhea
painful urination
yellow/bloody vaginal discharge w/ odor
is gonorrhea worse in men or women
men
where else besides the respiratory tract can gonorrhea grow?
mouth, throat, eyes, anus
spontaneous abortion
miscarriage
what do you do if a woman is bleeding from her vagina but not enough to cause shock
privacy is priority! don’t insert ANYTHING into the vagina. you can offer a menstrual pad
Vaginal bleeding and what symptom suggest shock and should be acted upon immediately
syncope
if a friend is helping out on scene, what are you allowed or not allowed to tell the friend.
not allowed to tell any thing you found from the scene. patient can tell the friend by their choice.
should you use paper or plastic bags when packing evidence/
paper, as it allows any clothing or evidence to dry naturally
bacteria and mold can grow on plastic
what do you do if a patient wants to shower and change clothes right away?
DISCOURAGE her from doing so, as to not wash away any evidence from the SA
but if she is still persistent, respect her wishes
what type of nurse is responsible collecting SA evidence and providing appropriate support to the victim
SANE - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
