CH12- Network management/Admin Flashcards
A partition that can hold boot files and the bios loads it before it can start the OS
Active Partition
A record of performance data from testing a system in normal conditions. Compared to contract peaks/Limitations
baseline
Disk configuration dividing disk space into 1 - 4 partitions
Basic disk
Partition or logical drive holding Windows OS files
Boot partition
Feature of performance Monitor that specifies the performance counters you want to collect over a time period
Data collector set
Special groups with rights already assigned during windows environment instillation
Default groups
Fault tolerance disk configuration where data is written on 2 drives
Disk mirroring
Some systems allow administrators to set limits on how much disk space a user is allowed to use
Disk quotas
fault tolerance disk configuration where several physical disks are linked in an array w/parity info on all disks. Data can be reconstructed from parity info
Disk stripping w/parity
Disk configuration in windows that can be divided into one or more volumes. These disks offer 1000 volumes per disk + RAID and disk spanning that basic disk doesn’t
Dynamic Disk
Partition divided into one or more Logical drives which can be formatted and assigned a drive letter
Extended partition
Device that distributes traffic for network service to multiple servers
Load balancer
A user profile stored on the same system where users logon. Created from a hidden profile called default when the users logon the first time
local profile
Software that runs on internetwork devices (routers) and prioritizes packets based on protocol, IP, TCP and UDP parts
Packet shaper
Cleaning the power input by removing noise from other devices on the circuit
Power conditioner
Partition type that can be formatted w/a file system, assigned a drive letter or put in an empty folder on an existing drive
primary partition
Secondary Power Supply where each unit is capable of standing alone to supply power if one fails
Redundant power supply
Network monitoring protocol that extends simple network protocol. Contains probes w/software that collect data and communicate w/a management system SNMP
(Simple network management protocol)
RMON (Remote Monitoring)
types of actions a user can perform in windows
Rights
In a windows environment a user profile is stored on a server and accesses when a user logs on
Roaming profile
An application layer protocol that windows services uses to share resources between windows computers. TCP port 445
SMB (Service message block)
Network management protocol components loaded on network devices that monitor network traffic and device status to send it to a management station
Software agents
Special windows group where membership is controlled dynamically, can’t be changed manually and depends on how an account accesses the OS. EX membership in authenticated users is assigned to a user automatically when the user logs on to a domain
Special identity group
Protection that evens out power spikes in main current
Surge protection
Active primary partition storing the windows boot loader
System partition
Power supply that has a battery back-up. Usually has power conditioning and surge protection
UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply
Collection of users personal files and settings that define the users work environment
user Profile
Technologies used to deliver phone voice over IP networks
(VoIP) Voice over IP
Space on one or more disks ready to contain a file system. Windows designates a drive letter. Linux volumes are mounted on the file system, accesses like a folder
Volume
