Ch 7 States of Matter Flashcards
Smaller alveoli have more or less surfactant than larger alveoli?
Smaller has more because it needs more because of the higher surface tension.
What is latent heat of vaporization?
number of calories (J) to convert 1g of liquid to vapor without a temperature change in the liquid
What is boiling point?
The temperature at which a liquid’s vapor pressure equals atmospheric pressure.
What is specific heat?
Amount of heat required to increase the temperature of 1 gram of substance by 1 degree Celsius.
What is critical temperature?
The highest temperature is where a gas can exist as a liquid. Once past this temp, the liquid becomes a gas and no amount of pressure will turn it back to a liquid.
What is the heat of vaporization (not latent)?
Number of calories required to vaporize 1mL of liquid.
Define critical temperature
Minimum amount of pressure is required to convert a gas to a liquid at its critical temp.
What is an adiabatic process?
A process that occurs without gain or loss of energy.
