CH 6 Summary Flashcards
The Human Body
The function of the respiratory system
Provide the body with oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide
Components of the respiratory system
nose, mouth, throat, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles
Components of the nervous system
brain, spinal cord, nerves
Functions of the skin
protect the body, regulate body temperature, transmit information from the environment to the brain
Parts of the digestive system
Gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestines), mouth, salivary glands, pharynx, esophagus, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, rectum, anus
parts of the lymphatic system
The spleen, lymph nodes, lymph, lymph vessels, thymus gland, other components
Function of the lymphatic system
Supports the circulatory system and the immune system. Helps rid the body of toxins. The spleen is important for immune function.
The endocrine system
A complex message and control system that integrates many body functions
Pathophysiology
The study of how normal physiologic processes are affected by disease
Respiratory compromise
The inability of the body to move gas effectively. Respiratory compromise results when either ventilation or respiration is impaired.
