Q

What part of society did most ordinary British soldiers come from?

A

The bottom of the society (poor people or criminals)

16
Q

Equipment did the British Army have at the start of the war and after Washington took over?

A

The British Army was equipped with muskets with bayonets and red uniform. The discipline was brutal, but the effectiveness was very high. The Americans, before Washington took over, all had different clothing and they had to supply their own weapon. there was hardly any discipline, considering that they treated their leaders which was not effective. After Washington took over, the Americans now had several rifles, which the British feared. Washington made the soldiers build barracks, taught them how to march in step, weeded out in ineffective soldiers, and beat soldiers who were found drunk. This caused the effectiveness to improve dramatically.
