CH. 5 Flashcards
Know where photosynthesis takes place
Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts, anywhere from a plant absorbing light and use electron transport chains to convert to energy as a form of food in order to live
Know the input/output of the two photosystems
Input- water, carbon dioxide, and energy in the form of sunlight
Output- glucose and oxygen
photosynthesis
converts light energy into chemical energy and stores it into chemical compound
*CO2+water–> (light energy)–> sugars+02
Two stages of photosynthesis
Light dependent reactions
Convert light energy to chemical energy of ATP and NADPH, releasing oxygen
Occur at the thylakoid membrane
Fuels light independent reactions
Light independent reactions
Atp and NADPH drive synthesis of sugars from water and CO2
Occurs in the stroma
Inputs of calvin Cycle
Carbon fixation
Reduction
Regeneration of the starting molecule
autotrophs
are able to make there own food using light, water, carbon dioxide
Heterotrophs
must rely on other organisms for there organic compounds or food source
Chloroplast
Photosynthetic species use pigments to collect
light energy for photosynthesis.
– An organic molecule that can absorb light at
specific wavelengths – Chlorophyll a
• Main photosynthetic pigment in plants
