Ch 4. A&P Flashcards
Describe the major categories of tissues and give general characteristics and examples of each
Epithelial tissue
Surfaces of the body, no capillaries, capable of secretion
Coverings on the outer surfaces, linings on the inner surfaces.
Connective tissue
Ex: blood
Has a matrix which is a structural network or solution of non-living intercellular material
Cells-supported by matrix
Muscle tissue
3 types: skeletal (connect bones to bones), cardiac (makes up the heart), smooth (visceral) its called visceral because it is found largely in the internal organs or “viscera”
Neural tissue
Consists of highly specialized cells, called neurons
The brain. spinal cord, cranial nerves, and peripheral nerves are the organs of the nervous system.
Describe the function of epithelial tissue depending upon their location
Describe the types and functions of connective tissue and relate them to the function of the body or an organ system
Explain the basic differences between smooth, skeletal, and cardiac muscle, and give an example of where each type would be found in the body
Describe in brief detail nervous tissue
Name the organs made of nerve tissue
Describe the location of pleural membranes, pericardial membranes, and the peritoneal membrane and mesentery
List membranes made of connective tissue
