What is the expiration date to when a mental health professional or officer can sign the petition ?
There is no expiration date.
What does the law obligates an officer to do ?
To serve a petition when presented to him or her by a physician.
In the event an individual is refused evaluation at any facility, what must the officer do ?
Request a supervisor to respond. The supervisor will attempt to work it out but if still refused, have the subject taken to another facility.
Citizens requesting information regarding emergency evaluation petitions, where should they be referred ?
Assessment stabilization center at PGH
How long is a petition valid for when signed by a judge ?

Petitioners
Mental health professionals such as physicians, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed clinical counselors, health officers or their designees. And law enforcement officers.
Police transports are authorized when :
The officer is the petitioner.
Serving a petition signed by a mental health professional.
Serving a court order.
Individual transported to a non designated hospital :
An individual who is transported to a non designated hospital, officers shall determine whether the individual will be treated and released within a reasonable amount of time. If so, the officer will wait, then transport the individual to the nearest designated hospital for evaluation.
Family members as petitioners :
Family members must complete an emergency evaluation petition obtained from a district court commissioner and present it for court review. Must be served by sheriffs once it is signed by a judge.
