In order to classify a case as child abuse, what do you need ?
An injury. Not required to be visible. Document date and time of the notification to CVAA and CPS and the name of individual notified.
What is the MD’s Infant Safe Haven Law
Have to leave child in designated facilities such as hospital, MSP barracks, or police station. The child must born within 10 days. Must notify Department of Social Services within 24 hours. The relinquishing person is not required to answer any questions but the relationship must be established. Write incident report, CIR and attach photo of the child. Forwards copies to to CVAA and youth and family services before 10-7. Ambulance shall be requested to respond and transport the newborn to a medical facility.
What authority does a CPS worker have in the event of an abused child ?
The legal authority to enter households and take custody of abused or neglected children. They may act before the issuance of any court orders. Normally, CPS does not require police assistance.
In the event of an abandoned child, what should an officer do ?
Make sure the child is transported to the hospital for eval. And notify SGt. Fax 88 to CVAA before 10-7
What is the station level detectives responsible for an abused child call ?
Handles 3rd and 4th degree sexual offenses. CID handles the more serious cases.
