Probation
Conditional release of a person convicted of crime back into the community under the supervision of a probation officer

Intermediate sanctions
Variety of punishments that are more restrictive than traditional probation but less severe and less costly than incarceration
Home confinement
Offender must remain inside their home unless during specific times
Day reporting center
Offender lives at home but reports to a center during the day; provides treatment, helps find jobs, edu programs, etc
Boot camp
Short-term institutional sentence that puts young or first-time lawbreakers through a physical regimen designed to develop discipline and respect for authority
Intermittent confinement
Offender wears ankle monitor and is jailed only on weekends or evenings and can leave to go to work
Community service
Serving unpaid labor in the community instead of incarceration or during parole/probation
Fines
Sum of money to be paid to the state
Restitution
Repaying the victim
Forfeiture
Seizure of property and other assets derived from or used for criminal
Parole
Conditional release of a person from incarceration before their sentence ends to serve the remainder of the sentence in the community
Furlough
Temporary release from correctional facility for a few days to visit home
