Ch 11 Flashcards
Endomysium
connective tissue outside every muscle fiber. Each individual muscle fiber is wrapped in this.
Muscle fascicles
bundle of muscle fibers
Perimysium
what the muscle fascicles are wrapped in
fasca
wraps around a whole muscle groups.
fasciotomy
incision in the fascia to relieve pressure
Compartment Syndrome
pressure inside a compartment due to overuse or contusion
Fusiform
belly of the muscle w tapers at each end. I.g. biceps brachii
parallel
all running straight down w tendon sections. ig rectus abdominis
Triangular
tapers off at one end. ig pectoralis major
unipennate
leaf cut in half, tendon through the middle. bipennate is a whole leaf. multipennate has mulstiple stems. ig deltoid.
how to tell between origin and insertion
origin is usually more proximal. insertion moves closer to origin
indirect attachment
tendon attaches muscle to bond. connects into periosteum and matrix. distance between muscle belly and bone
aponeurosis
muscle attachment, broad sheet of tendon
direct attachment
muscle rests right over bone. hard to tell there’s a tendon
What does the prime mover functional group do
it’s the agonist. produces main force for the action
