The idea of humans thinking/reflecting on their own thoughts and behaviors
Introspection
The idea that the mind operates by combining emotions and objective sensations; everything together makes up the entire experience
Structuralism
How cognitive structures function in our lives; how mental/behavioral processes function and enable us to adapt, survive, and flourish
Functionalism
Unconscious thoughts and actions are attributed to unconscious motives, conflicts, and repressions. Sigmund Freud.
Psychoanalytic Theory
States that psychologists should solely examine behavior and the causes of behavior (stimuli/responses) rather than the unconscious mind
Behavioralism
Studies that stress individual choice and free will. The school of psychology that says we choose out behaviors are are guided by physiological, emotional, or spiritual needs
Humanist Perspective
A school of psychology that draws upon psychoanalysis principles, the unconscious mind, repression, and childhood control our thoughts and actions
Psychoanalytic perspective
A school of psychology that looks to explain behavior through our biological processes (hormones, brain chemistry, genes, etc.)
Biopsychology perspective
A school of psychology that examines human thoughts and actions based in term of natural selection
Evolutionary perspective
A school of psychology that examines human thought and behavior in terms of conditioning, stimuli, and observable reactions
Behavioral perspective
A school of psychology that examines human thought and behavior in terms of how we interpret, process, and remember our environment
Cognitive perspective
A school of psychology that examines how thoughts and behaviors vary between cultures
Sociocultural perspective
