CFI Maneuvers Flashcards
Describe the setup for Steep Turns.
- CHAPS
- 20” MP/120 knots
- 2000’ AGL
- Trimmed
Describe the entry for Steep Turns.
Roll into and maintain 50° bank ±5°
Increase power to 22” MP
Reference cowling to horizon - crosscheck flight path marker
Describe the technique for Steep Turns.
Keep the fight path marker on the horizon
Momentarily increase bank angle to lose altitude
Momentarily decrease bank angle to gain altitude
Describe recovery from the Steep turn.
Begin rolling to level 15-20° before the specified heading.
Push to keep from balooning until you reduce the power.
Describe the setup for Steep Spirals.
CHAPS
6000’ AGL
Manuever for downwind entry and right turns (preferred)
Describe the entry for Steep Spirals.
Enter on downwind.
Power to idle.
Pitch for VBG and trim.
Establish 45° or greater bank
Describe the technique for Steep Spirals.
Vary bank angle with wind direction to maintain constant radius turn over selected spot.
Shallower turns on the upwind/slower ground speed. Forward pressure to keep airspeed from slowing.
Steeper turns on the downwind/faster ground speed. Back pressure to keep airspeed from climbing.
Clear engine on every upwind leg.
Describe the recovery from Steep Spirals.
After 3 turns, add power and return to straight and level cruise flight.
