Physiotherapy options for CF
Vest therapy, postural damage (PD), positive expiratory pressure (PEP)/oscillatory PEP, exercise
Annual vaccination for CF patients
Yearly flu vaccine starting at 6 months
CF pulmonary meds: bronchodilators
SABAs (albuterol) preferred over LABAs (salmeterol)
CF pulmonary meds: topical mucolytic/hydratting agents
Dornase alfa, hypertonic saline
Dornase alfa dosing
2.5mg INH BID
Hypertonic saline dosing
7% INH BID
Dornase alfa ADEs
May have voice hoarseness, rash
Hypertonic saline ADEs
May have bronchospasm
CF pulmonary med: anti-inflammatory med
Azithromycin
Azithromycin dosing
250mg PO MWF for patients <40kg
500mg PO MWF for patients ≥40kg
Azithromycin ADEs
Nausea, diarrhea, wheezing, possible ABX resistance
CF pulmonary meds: inhaled ABX
Tobramycin, aztreonam
Tobramycin dosing
TOBI 300mg INH BID 28 days on, then 28 days off administered over 15 minutes
TOBI PodHaler 112mg (4, 28mg capsules) INH BID, 28 days on, 28 days off administered over 2-7 minutes
Tobramycin ADEs
May have voice alteration, tinnitus
Aztreonam dosing
75mg INH BID 28 days on, 28 days off administered over 2-3 minutes
