Cervical Plexus and Nerves Flashcards
superficial branches of cervical plexus
nerves C2-4
sensory fibers to the skin of posterolateral aspect of head and neck, ant. neck, and upper chest and shoulders
lesser occipital n
C2-3
great auricular n
C2-3
transverse cervical n
C2-3
supraclavicualr n
C3-4
ansa cervicalis
ant. rami of C1-3
superior root (C1-2) - hypoglossal n.
inferior root (C2-3)
inn all of the infrahoid m.
phrenic n.
C3-5
descends superficial to the ant. scalene mm
brachial plexus
C5-T1
compressed by ant. scalene mm
general somatic afferent (GSA)
inn ectodermal origin
convey pain, temp, tactile, pressure, and proprioception
sharp local pain
general visceral afferent (GVA)
inn endodermal origin
fibers convey visceral pain (stretch, ischemia) and reflexes
dull ache, throbbing, non local pain
general somatic efferent (GSE)
inn mm of myotomic origin (tongue and extra ocular mm)
general visceral efferent (GVE)
associated with the sympathetic (thoraco-lumbar) and parasympathetic (carino-sacral) divisions of the ANS
NO PREganglionic parasympathetic fibers in any spinal n
trigeminal sensory nuclei (GSA)
sensory nucleus for all sensations
all GSA fibers from cranial n V, VII, IX, and X
includes 3 nuclei: mesencephalic nucleus of V, main sensory nucleus of V, and descending nucleus of V
solitary nucleus (SVA and GVA)
sensory nucleus for general sensation from the posterior 1/3 of the tongue to the mid portion of the transverse colon
all GVA and SVA (tase) fibers
oculomotor nucleus
inn superior, inferior, and medial recti, inferior oblique, and the levator palperbae superioris mm via branches of the oculomotor n
