it is the enlragement of the cervical lymph nodes
These are the lymphnodes of the neck

Cuases of Cervical Lymphadenopathy
A
Inflammatory - reactive hyperplasia, RA, SLE
infective: EBV, Cytomegalo, HIV, TB
Neoplastic

When is Cervical Lymphadenopathy painful
A
When it is caused by reactive nodes by infection or infalamtion.
those of haematological causes tend to be asymptomatic and may be generalized

Investigating Cervical Lymphadenopathy
A
FBC for neutrophilia
ESR
CXR - look for mediastnal lymphadenopathy
