Cells And Tissue Flashcards
Function of adipose tissue
Energy stores, insulation, cushion to protect vital organs
Where is dense tissue found
Can find dense tissue in tendons ligaments and thick artery walls
Mitosis
When cells make new cells they are identical cells being produced exact replicate of parent cell
What is a tissue
A group of cells performing a similar activity
What is a cell
Cells make up all living organisms
They are the smallest unit that can live in their own
Responsible for all of life process
What is epithelial tissue
Tissue that covers all internal and external body surfaces
They form a protective barrier and or absorb or secrete substances
There is differnt thickness
Single layer of cells or multiple layers of cells
What is an organ
Serval group of tissue performing together
What is a system
A group of organs involved in a common function
Where would you find epithelial tissue
Skin, hollow internal places, stomach, intestines
Where would you find connective tissue
around the body, blood bone and Cartlidge connect skin to muscle
Where would you find muscle tissue
All around the body skeletal muscle heart muscle
What is homeostasis?
Method the body uses to ensure internal environment is maintained in normal body processes occur without homeostasis. The body system will be unable to function
What is muscle tissue?
Muscle tissue creates movement. They have the ability to contract and relax due to special fibres
Where would you find nervous tissue?
Everywhere around the body brain and spinal cord
Three main structures of the cell
Nucleus plasma membrane and cytoplasm
Four main tissues
Connective tissue epithelial tissue muscle tissue nervous tissue
Meiosis
So divide/replicate for reproduction of offspring half DNA from mum half DNA from dad equals one whole
What are three types of muscle
Skeletal muscle attached to bone bicep muscle smooth muscle found in hollow organs wall of arteries, cardiac heart muscle found in the heart
What is nervous tissue?
Forms the nerves spinal cord and brain
Carries electrical messages via nerve impulses carry messages around the body
What is connected tissue?
Connective tissue support and connect cells and tissues together
Cytoplasm function
holds the internal components of cell in place and protects them from damage
Plasma membrane function
Is the surrounding way around the cell It protects the cell It has the semi permeable barrier. It chooses what can/can’t enter/exit.
What is mitochondria?
Much of Cria is the powerhouse of the cell produces energy for the cell to function more active equals more mitochondria a cell has
Nucleus functions
Brain of the cell which controls the genetic information controls the development of the cell plus activity
