Cells And Magnification Flashcards
Define eukaryotic cells
Have a membrane bound nucleus e.g. animal and plant cells
Define prokaryotic cells
they have no nucleus and the genetic information is found in the cytoplasm
What 5 things make up an animal cell
- Nucleus
- Cell membrane
- Cytoplasm
- Mitochondria
- Ribosomes
What happens in the nucleus
Controls the activities of the cell and contains the genetic information
Whats the cell membrane used for
Controls what enters and leaves the cell.
What is cytoplasm used for
Where most chemical reactions occour
What is mitochondria used for
Site of respiration, which release energy for the cell
What are ribosomes used for
Where proteins are made ( protein synthesis )
What 3 added things make up a plant cell
- Cell wall
- Vacuole
- Chloroplast
What is a cell wall used for
Strengthens and supports the cell to keep its shame
Whats the vacuole used for
Storage space filled with cell-sap , helps to keep the cell rigid
Whats chloroplast used for
Where photosynthesis takes place to make food for the plant
What 4 things make up a bacterial cell
- Genetic material
- Plasmids
- Flagella
- Slime capsule
What is genetic material and whats it made for
Its a single loop of chromosomal DNA free in the cytoplasm. It carries most of the bacterial genes
What are plasmids and what do they do
Some bacteria have extra circles of DNA, these contain additional genes not found in the chromosomes
