Cell Organelles Flashcards
What does an animal cell contain?
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Plasma membrane
Ribosomes
Cytoplasm
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Golgi apparatus
Golgi vesicles
Lysosomes
2 centrioles close to the nucleus at right angles
What does a mitochondria contain?
Matrix
Cristae
Envelope (inner membrane, outer membrane, inter membrane space)
What does nucleus contain?
Nucleolus
Nuclear envelope
Nuclear pores
Chromatin
What is on the surface of rough endoplasmic reticulum?
Ribosomes
What is the role of the nucleolus?
Synthesising ribosomal RNA/ ribosomes
What is the role of the nuclear pore?
Allows mRNA to leave the cell
What is the role of the nucleus?
Contains genetic material for protein synthesis
What is the role of the ribosomes?
Protein synthesis
What is the role of the mitochondria?
Release energy for aerobic respiration/ produce ATP
What is the role of the rough endoplasmic reticulum?
Folds and packages proteins and transports to the Golgi apparatus
What is the role of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
Synthesis of carbohydrates and lipids
What is the role of the cytoplasm?
Helps cell maintain shape and form
What is the role of the nuclear envelope?
Controls entry and exit of materials in and out of nucleus and contains reactions
What is the role of the Golgi apparatus?
Processes and packages new lipids and proteins also makes lysosomes
What is the role of the Golgi vesicles?
Migrate to and combine with cell membranes - pumps important proteins out of cell
