Cell Biology 6 Mitosis Flashcards
What are the two processes in which cells divide?
The two processes in which cells divide are mitosis and meiosis.
What is the cell cycle?
The stages in which cells divide.
Describe the different stages of the cell cycle
During the first stage of the cell cycle the DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome, the cell also grows and copies its internal structures such as mitochondria and ribosomes. In the second stage of the cell cycle, mitosis takes place and one set (4=2pairs) of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell and the nucleus also divides. In the final stage of the cell cycle, the whole cell divides to form two identical cells.
What are the functions of mitosis?
The functions of mitosis are growth and development of multicellular organisms. (eg. plants and animals) it also takes place when an organism repairs itself.
What is mitosis?
Mitosis is the process in which a single parent cells divides to form two new daughter cells.
What type of cells does mitosis produce?
Mitosis produces new body cells.
