Excreted unchanged in urine (33% - 67%) and in bile

- Suspected meningococcal septicaemia
- Severe sepsis (consult only)

Special notes
A
Usual dose
- adult 1 g
- child 50 mg/kg (max 1 g)
IV dose must be made up to 10 ml using sterile water and dose administered over 2 mins
IM dose must be made up to 4 ml using 1% lignocaine and dose administered in lateral upper thigh
