CBT- NAV OANS Flashcards
From what probes does the ADR get its air data?
- Multi Function Probe (TAT+AOA)
- Sideslip Angle Probe (SSA)
- L+R Integrated Static Probes (ISP)
What supplies the ISIS with air data?
Separate static probes and a standby pitot probe
Separate to ADRs’ inputs
In case of loss of all ADR how may pilots get speed/alt reference?
Following the ECAM action to turn off all 3 ADR will prompt the BUSS (Backup Speed Scale)
BUSS input is from AOA and SFCC (Config) for speed and GPS for Altitude
What consideration exist with BUSS in regards to load factor?
Will FPV still be available in BUSS?
It is only configured to 1 G so roll maneuvers should be done carefully
Yes its a factor of the IRS
How to configure with BUSS?
Stabilize at the bottom of the green band and configure then repreat for the nest configuration. Retraction is done at the top of the green band in a reverse manner.
How to activate OANS?
EFIS CP set to zoom in ARC, NAV and PLAN
Turn the EFIS range knob even more counter clockwise to set lower range
Can the crew display other non pertinent airports on the OANS?
Yes but only in PLAN mode
What is the Runway Approaching Advisory on the OANS?
On the center of the PFD, RWY AHEAD boxed message and on ND the rwy will pulse yellow 7 s before the aircraft nose enters the runway protected area.
How to navigate the OANS airport map using the cursor?
Press the validation pb while simultaneously moving the trackball
In ARC/NAV if validation pb is release the image recenters at A/C. in PLAN it stays where the cursor was at
Can crew annotate the airport map on the OANS?
Yes using flags or crosses
Does setting the IRS knob to off turn off affect its respective ADR?
Yes the the knob is for the entire ADIRU
To what main groups does the Nav system split into?
ADIRS
RAD NAV
SURV
OANS
What do MMR 1 and 2 recieve input from?
Multi Mode Reciever
GPS 1 and 2
LOC and G/S antennae
Both FMS
3 ADIRS
Which is sent to PRIM, cockpit displays, SURV system and backup ISIS
How can MMR receive ILS input in case of all FMC fail?
Via RMP STBY RAD NAV funtion
What are the functions of the SURV system?
- Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS)
- Weather Radar (WXR) with PWS
- A Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), and
- Transponder (XPDR).
What are the SURV system components
- 2 SURV Systems
- WX Radar
- 4 combined TCAS/XPDR antennae
- SURV control panel (central pedestal)
- SURV KCCU key and dedicated MFD pages
MFD is backup if all RMP fail
What is GPWS Mode 1
Sinkrate, Sinkrate
What is GPWS Mode 2
Terrain, Terrain
What is GPWS Mode 3
Dont sink, dont sink
What is GPWS Mode 4
Too low gear/flaps
What is GPWS Mode 5
Glideslope
>1.3 dot deviation
What are TAD and TCF?
- Terrain/Obstacle Awareness and Display (TAD), and
- Terrain Clearance Floor (TCF).
They’re part of the TAWS terrain protection function.
Terrain is natural, Obstacles are manmade
How is terrain show in flight plan discontinuity or when offset (not in nav mode)?
When does the amber terrain zone show on the VD?
below 5000 RA
Card showing how TAD colour codes ND terrain
When at what closure rate does the terrain alert and susequent warning come?
Alert 60s
Warning 30 s
Approximately
Describe TCF
The TCF function computes a terrain clearance envelope around the airport runway and issues an alert if the aircraft descends below the envelope.
What functions does the WX Radar posses?
- weather display function
- Predictive Windshear (PWS) function
- Turbulence (TURB) detection function, and
- Ground mapping function
What is the lateral range of the WXR?
320nm
In order for the ADIRS to compute the A/C position, it recieves GPS data from?
MMR
ILS 1 data is displayed on:
PFD 1
ND 2
and vice versa for ILS 2
Can the WX Radar detect CAT and dry turbulence?
Also, How far out can TURB be detected
No
40nm
What does the “TURB” message on the ND mean?
Turbulence is detected and WV pb is not pressed on the EFIS CP
PWS can alert pilots of possible W/S at least _ _ seconds befor a the encounter
10 s
When is PWS active in flight?
Below 1500 RA
How is PWS alert indicated on PFD/ND when range knob is above 10nm?
“Monitor Radar Display”
How is a PWS advisory indicated?
How is a PWS warning displayed?
With aural alert “GA W/S or W/S Ahead “
What system component detects ans gives reactive W/S warnings?
When is is active?
PRIM
Active in Approach 1300-50 RA
or 3s after liftoff to 1300 RA in takeoff
In non clean configuration only
What is the lateral and vertical range of TCAS detection?
20-60nm
-/+ 9900 feet
Which alerts inhibit TCAS RA?
Windshear
* Stall, and * TAWS.
What determines in ND WX is “on path” or not?
The WXR radar applies a -/+ 4000 feet relevant envelope on the airplane’s current and planned trajectory as shown in the picture. Anything outside this envelope whilst on the path will be shown on the ND with alternating reflectivity and black stripes.
Notice in the VD how the striped cloud is lower than what is needed to be in the envelope
