In all cases (ENG, APU, MLG) if they fail within 5 seconds of each other a fire warning will be produced. If more that 5 seconds the fire detection fucntion of the respective system fails

How is smoke detection achieved in the avionics bays?

A smoke detector downstream of the bays just before the extractor. This is monitored and relayed to cockpit by the SDF (Smoke Detection Function)

Avionics includes main, aft and forward bays, IFE and NSS.

IFE smoke is also relayed to cabin FAP

How is smoke detection and extinguishing achieved in the cargo bays?

SDF gets input from detectors in the ceiling of the aft, front and bulk cargo compartments. This arms the two bottles that can discharge in FWD or Aft/Bulk Cargo

Once detected the VENT system automatical isolates the respective compartment

How do the cargo extinguisher bottles discharge?

Answer 9

Bottle 1 takes 1 minute
Bottle 2 Discharges over 4 hours to maintain concentration

The amber BTL indication only shows once the bottle is fully discharged

What provides smoke detection for the CRC?

SDF. When smoke is detected in the lower crew rest compartment, the ventilation shut off valves close
