Cards Flashcards
Treatment for long QT syndrome?
beta-blocker
other later choices - pacemaker, internal cardioverter-defibrillator, surgical ablation
Aortic stenosis is INCREASED/DECREASED by squatting?
INCREASED - squatting –> increased venous return –> increased flow across the valve
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is INCREASED/DECREASED by valsalva?
INCREASED - valsalva –> decreased venous return –> hypertrophied interventricular septum and mitral valve leaflets are closer = more obstruction
What is the cardiac finding in fetal alcohol syndrome?
septal defects are common
What is appropriate treatment for a hemodynamically stable ventricular tachycardia?
IV amiodarone
Verapamil is used almost exclusively in treatment of what arrhythmia?
supraventricular arrhythmias
What heart problem is associated with EDS?
mitral valve prolapse
What cardiac abnormalities are associated with DiGeorge Syndrome?
structural abnormalities of great vessels, often associated with septal defects
What heart murmur changes in intensity with movement of the head/neck?
venous hum
What is ANP?
atrial natriuretic peptide, responds to stretch in the atrium from hypervolemia or hypertension
