Cardiovascular system Flashcards
5 CARDIOVASCULAR RISK FACTORS
Genetics, Gender, Age, Body fat, and Cholesterol
5 HEART HEALTHY FOODS
Tuna, Almonds, asparagus, Dark Chocolate, Oranges
2 WAYS WOMEN ARE AT A HIGHER RISK
They are more likely to die from a heart attack, and they have different symptoms of a heart attack than males.
GOOD VS. BAD CHOLESTEROL
Exercise lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and and raises good cholesterol (HDL)
Pulmonary Circulation
Lungs-Right Atrium and right ventricle, pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood, veins carry oxygenated blood.
Systemic Circulation
Left atrium and ventricle, circulation to the rest of the body.
Which Ventricle is bigger and why?
Left ventricle, it pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body
Pericardium, what is it and what does it do
Sac like structure that encloses the heart,
protects and reduces friction.
Why are the Pulmonary artery and veins unique
Arteries usually pump oxygenated blood and veins usaully carry deoxygenated blood
Pulmonary artery
Carries deoxygenated blood
Pulmonary vein
Carries oxygenated blood
LUBB
Closing of the AV valves at the start of ventricular contraction
DUBB
Closing of semilunar valves when the ventricles are done contracting.
EKG- P
Atria contracts
EKG- QRS
Ventricles contract and atria relax
EKG -T
Ventricles relax
Arteries
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart, have thicker walls
Veins
Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart, have valves that prevent back flow
Varicose Veins
Spider veins, result from a leaky valve
How to take a pulse
Using fingertips to squeeze an artery against a solid mass
Accessible arteries for pulse
Carotid/ Temporal
Device used to take blood pressure
Sphygmomanometer
Systolic
Top number, ventricles contract, QRS
Diastolic
Bottom number, ventricles relax,T
