Cardiovascular drift Flashcards
1
Q
What is cardiovascular drift?
A
When the heart rate increases due to stroke volume decreasing.
2
Q
Describe the process of cardiovascular drift
A
- Warm environment, more than 10 mins.
- Sweat
- Reduced plasma volume
- Blood viscosity increases
- Blood pressure decreases
- Venous return decreases
- Stroke volume decreases
- Heart rate increases, to maintain cardiac output.
3
Q
Describe the cardiovascular drift graph
A
Heart rate increases during first 10mins, then levels into steady incline.
Stroke volume increases in first 10mins, then levels into a steady decline.
Cardiac output remains at steady incline throughout 50 mins.
